Yes, But What About All the Squirrels?

So far this year, my win-loss record for avoiding squirrels with stage fright is about 150 and 1. And that one loss bothers me more than it probably should. But the fact is, it wouldn’t bother a self-driving car. If anything, the car’s record would likely be far worse. After all, I doubt most engineers will design an AI that actually “cares” (makes morality-based decisions) about squirrels.

The Power of PEEK and POKE

So I fell down a rabbit hole the other day. As I was digging through a box in my storage unit, I ran across a very old flyer that I’ve held onto out of nostalgia all these years. On it, a grinning, sweater-clad William Shatner–not long after the first Star Trek movie but before Wrath of Khan–proclaimed the Commodore VIC-20 to be “The Wonder Computer of the 1980s.”
